Diamondbacks 5 13 0
Reds 3 9 0
By Ryan Bramwell
- The bad Bronson Arroyo showed up to pitch tonight. He surrendered five runs on eight hits in only three innings of
workbatting practice. Four runs were handed to the Dbacks right from the get-go as Bronson was just awful in the first inning. - The Reds bullpen gave the offense a chance at this game. They did not allow a single run from the 4th inning until the game was over. Alfredo Simon threw 46 pitches (Arroyo threw 48) and gave up a few hits in three full innings on the mound. Arredondo was good. Ondrusek struck out the side, but not in order, in the 9th. He gave up three hits but was able to come away unharmed.
- Bill Bray is just plain horrible (or just insert any adjective you want to describe a bad player). The Cowboy, Jeff Brantley, could not have said it better when Bray finished his inning: "He got very lucky..." Indeed, he did. I really don't want to go into Bray's inning in detail to be honest. If the Reds had scored five runs in this game and Bray had not been supremely lucky like he was, then the Reds would have still lost. And I would have lost my mind. It is time to send Bray packing, whether it be down to the minors (if he has any options left on his contract) or via a trade package. Either way, he needs to be off the 25-man roster. Bring back J.J. Hoover or anyone else for that matter. Just because Bray is a left-handed reliever it doesn't make him a coveted commodity.
- Offensively, this is how the Redlegs faired: Stubbs reached base three times with a pair of singles, two RBI and a walk, which pushes his average up to a whopping .217. Phillips had a pair of hits including a double and an RBI. Heisey had two hits as well. Frazier had a double. Rolen and Hanigan each had a single.
- The Pirates lost as well. So that's good news.
The Reds send Johnny Cueto to the mound tonight after being pushed back a couple of days due to a blister on his right index finger. We have three more home game against a Diamondback team that isn't as good as us, even without Joey. I will have more news on our injured hero in just a bit.
I was at the game and it seemed like every pitch Arroyo threw was right down the middle at about 75 mph. I think my 8 yr old son could have hit it. No seriously, I think he really could. Your right Ryan the bad Bronson showed up last night and I think one good start out of 5 isn't going to get it done. He'll have a good outing followed by 3 HORRIBLE ones. Come playoff time it's just not going to be good enough. Who knows maybe the one good start will fall on his turn in the rotation in October but it's a rough decision to make for Dusty. I want to win and win This year. I'm sure most of you would agree
